Gesner attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in architecture in 1948. He then went on to earn a Master of Architecture degree from Harvard University in 1950. Gesner has worked on a variety of projects, including the Getty Center, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Los Angeles Convention Center, and the Los Angeles International Airport. He has also designed numerous residential projects, including the iconic Malibu Beach House. Gesner has been honored with numerous awards, including the American Institute of Architects Gold Medal in 2004.
