Although better known by his stage name “JBalvin”, this music superstar was born on May 7, 1985 to José Álvaro Osorio Balvin to Alba Mery Balvin and José Álvaro Osorio. He was born in Medellín, Colombia. Balvin grew up listening to different genres of music, but he was never interested in making a career out of it. Luckily, he traveled to the United States on an English exchange program and was exposed to the business side of music there.
Upon his return to his home country, he enrolled in EAFIT University to pursue studies in International Business. He also started his musical career by performing in various local clubs under the pseudonym J Balvin “El Negocio”. He signed with EMI Colombia in 2009 and the following year he released his debut album Réal. Under the same label he released a second album El Negocio (2010) as well as a mixtape J Balvín Mix Tape (2012).
